Improved crop quality, productivity, and food security begins with agricultural research and development (R&D), KKL-JNF partners with and supports eight regional R&D stations in Israel. These stations promote cutting edge and ecologically sustainable agriculture research and advancements that focus on farming and produce development in a challenging and changing environment.
R&D STATIONS
Name: Northern Station
Description: Northern research and development (Northern R&D) deals with a range of fields, mostly among the various plant departments: deciduous orchards, subtropical species, wine grapes, citrus orchards, vegetables, field crops, and flowers and, edible mushrooms.
Name: Beit Shean Valley - Emek Hamaayanot
Description: At this station, located in the Beit Shean Valley, observational studies and experiments are carried out on a wide variety of field crops, plantations and greenhouses, in accordance with the agricultural activities carried out in the kibbutzim and moshavim of the region. The goal is to expand and perfect agricultural production in the communities of the area, to ensure an adequate livelihood for the current as well as future generations of farmers.
Name: Central Mountain Area Station
Description: The central mountain region (Mop HaHar) comprises four regional councils: Shomron, Binyamin, Gush Etzion and Har Hevron. Mop HaHar’s mission is to serve the farmers in a reliable and dedicated fashion, to promote their professional and economic advancement.
Name: Jordan Valley Station
Description: The Research and Development station in the Jordan Valley is one of the research centers operating throughout the country within the national activity of applied regional agricultural research and development.
Name: Besor Station
Description: The Besor R&D is the first regional R&D established in Israel. It is focused on the western and northern Negev region in the area of the regional councils: Eshkol, Hof Aza, Merhavim and Gaza. The R&D deals both with solutions to current problems that characterize agriculture in the region and with long-term development in the fields of advanced production technologies and the introduction of new products.
Name: Central And Northern Arava Station
Description: The Central and Northern Arava R&D Station was initiated in 1986, and includes seven sectors: Vegetables, ornamentals. plant-protection, orchards, organic agriculture, fishery, produce quality. Each sector is run by a coordinator, who acts as the chairperson for a committee comprised of farmers, extension service staff, and researchers, that determines which of the major issues will be tackled that year.
Name: Ramat Negev Desert Agro-Research Center (Rndarc)
Description: The RNDARC operates within the framework of the Ramat Negev Regional Council, in the western Negev, and focuses on applied research in close cooperation with farmers, research instructors, and the academic institutions in Israel which deal with agriculture. This R&D station carries out experiments every year to test varieties of olives, pomegranates, jojoba, root stocks for wine grapes, tomatoes, peppers, fresh herbs, and ornamental flowers, resulting in the increases of agricultural production in Ramat Negev.
Name: Southern Arava Station
Description: The southern Arava R&D operates in the Eilot Regional Council and hosts various scientific activities including soil and water sciences, postharvest, horticulture, flowers and ornamental plants, vegetables, plant protection and agrotechnology. The soil, water and plant testing lab serves the SA R&D researchers and provides comprehensive support for the region’s farmers, landscapers and gardeners.
