The Central and Northern Arava R&D Station was initiated in 1986, and includes seven sectors:
Vegetables, ornamentals. plant-protection, orchards, organic agriculture, fishery, produce quality.
Each sector is run by a coordinator, who acts as the chairperson for a committee comprised of farmers, extension service staff, and researchers, that determines which of the major issues will be tackled that year. Then experiments are carried out in experimental stations or farmers sites, with the emerging knowledge transferred to the farmers through regular consultation, end-of-season meetings, internet newsletters and fliers. In addition, there are occasional open-days, lectures, and trips on various topics.
