Amidst the chaos of the Iron Swords War, it is easy to forget another existential danger,  far from the headlines but nevertheless proceeding apace. We are referring to desertification, the process by which fertile land degrades into desert, mainly through deforestation, excessive farming, or drought. Every year, over 1 million sq.km is lost to desertification, destroying entire ecosystems on which societies depend.
