Shavuot and Bikkurim
Celebrating Israel’s Biodiversity

Shavuot is often associated with cheesecake, late-night learning, and the reading of the Ten Commandments in shule. But in Israel, it also brings us back to its agricultural roots as Chag HaBikkurim, the Festival of First Fruits. Long ago, farmers would travel to Jerusalem with the first fruits of their harvest, expressing gratitude for the land and its abundance. A celebration of connection—between people, land, and life itself. This year, Shavuot (May 22) coincides with the International Day for Biological Diversity. A timely reminder that the abundance we celebrate depends on something deeper: the health and diversity of the natural world around us. Forests, pollinators, native plants, wetlands, and healthy soil all work together to sustain life and agriculture. Protecting biodiversity means protecting Israel’s ability to grow, flourish, and thrive for generations to come.

Since 1901, KKL-JNF stamps have served as more than fundraising tools. They are educational symbols, appearing on certificates and documents, and inspiring learning and collections in Israel and around the world.

We are proud to share designs from our archive of thousands of stamps, each reflecting history, memory, and the connection between people and the land.
