Roads running through the KKL-JNF’s Assaf Simhoni Grove were heavily damaged following the October 7th attacks. We must restore them and ensure that the scars of war are removed from our beloved land.
The KKL-JNF Assaf Simhoni Grove, located near the communities of Kfar Gaza, Nahal Oz, and Alumim, serves as a vital green space in southern Israel, not far from the Gaza border.
This beautiful forest provides an oasis of nature, recreation, and tranquility for the local population and visitors. However, the aftermath of the October 7th attacks, and the recent Iron Swords War have left their mark, damaging the critical infrastructure that supports the grove.
The two primary access roads leading into the grove were severely impacted as the IDF’s heavy vehicles traversed them during operations.
These roads are essential for various reasons – they enable public access, and serve as lifelines for KKL-JNF foresters, who rely on them for the ongoing maintenance and protection of the grove.
Emergency vehicles, including fire brigades, also depend on these roads, especially during times of heightened security risks and fire hazards.
The forest’s rich history is intertwined with its namesake, General Assaf Simhoni, who led Israel’s Southern Command during the 1956 Suez Crisis and tragically lost his life in a plane crash the last day of the war.
His legacy of resilience and dedication mirrors the importance of this grove to the local communities.
The rehabilitation of these access roads is not just about restoring infrastructure – it’s about safeguarding a vital natural resource and ensuring the forest remains accessible and protected for generations to come.
Furthermore, repairing the roads is about healing the scars of war inflicted on the region during the attacks. Part of the rehabilitation process includes clearing the area of any signs of war. The roads must be restored.
By supporting this crucial project, you are playing a part in preserving a living memorial, enhancing public safety, and restoring an essential piece of Israel’s natural heritage.
KKL-JNF invites you to join us in ensuring that the Assaf Simhoni Grove continues to thrive and serve the people of Israel and the communities who cherish it.
